Norwich took the lead in the championship after a history of two penalties in the second half that defeated them at Middlesbrough

Neil Warnock’s Boro was ahead of the game but missed the opportunity to go forward just after the break when Marcus Tavernier’s kick was ruled out as he slipped and touched the ball twice so he hit from 12 meters

Twenty minutes later Norwich’s Max Aarons was brought into the box by Hayden Coulson and Teemu Pukki calmly fired goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli the wrong way

Boro couldn’t create much in the final stages, although Britt Assombalonga was narrowly denied by an excellent block from Grant Hanley

In a game between two of the league’s best defenses, the lack of clear opportunities came as no surprise, although Marvin Johnson twice called up Norwich goalkeeper Tim Krul in the first half

Middlesbrough received a kick when Tavernier was knocked down by former Boro center-back Ben Gibson and although the penalty was scored he was ruled out as the midfielder was unhappy to touch the ball twice as he lost his footing

Norwich picked up momentum thanks to their stroke of luck and Emi Buendia nearly joined Przemyslaw Placheta’s low cross before half-time substitute Pukki gave up his penalty in the corner

Marc Bola put his body on the line to prevent the visitors from scoring a second but Boro failed to score for a third game in a row and have now lost each of their last five league games to Norwich by one score from 1-0

“Left-back [Jacob Sorensen] should have been sent off Referee tells me he didn’t think he was going to catch the ball but when you look at him he only passed 10 yards from him

“It has already been booked, we should have played against 10 men, but that’s how it goes And I would have given the Norwich penalty if I had refereed

“I felt we had the best chance. I don’t think Marcus [Bettinelli] had a chance to save today

“I really like to see us play I think we have a great group of guys We’re a bit limited, as we know, but they try their best”

“Being at the top of the league is good for the mood and also for the confidence but that is not important at the moment after 12 games, what matters is where you are after 46 games

“Middlesbrough is a tough place to go, they were on an eight-game unbeaten streak and have conceded just one goal in their last seven games which shows the scale of the task today. hui

“It was a difficult game, knowing that we have several injuries and that some players are coming back from the international break, it’s always tricky
