A man was killed in a shark attack at Cable Beach in Broome, northern Western Australia on Sunday morning

ABC reported that police picked up the man from the water and treated him before St. John Ambulance officers arrived

The beach has been closed and locals are advised to exercise caution

The shark is said to still be free and its species is not yet known

The WA Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development said a fisheries patrol officer was monitoring the area

Cable Beach is a popular tourist spot and has also had a number of sightings of saltwater crocodiles and jellyfish attacks over the years
