Los Angeles Clippers look to add an experienced cross to bolster their frontcourt rotation

New York Times’ Marc Stein says Clippers target free agents Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol The two great veterans played key roles in the 2019 Toronto Raptors Championship squad

The Lakers are also looking for another great man, according to league sources, but they face much tougher financial constraints in the pursuit of Gasol after signing Montrezl Harrell away from the Clippers and re-signing Kentavious Caldwell- Pope

LA is looking to fill the void left by 2019-20 sixth man of the year Montrezl Harrell, who ‘shocked’ the Clippers by refusing money to sign with Staples Center rival Los Angeles Lakers, via a mid-level exception

Of course, the Clippers aren’t the only team interested in Gasol and Ibaka – two of the most accomplished players on the market

As Stein notes, the Raptors and Brooklyn Nets are also competing for Ibaka, which could make Gasol a more doable option for the Clippers. (The Nets may already have a deal with Ibaka, according to Kevin Durant’s brother)

The Lakers are also interested in the services of Gasol, after Dwight Howard signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, by Stein

Ibaka mainly came off the bench for Toronto in 2019-20, but still enjoyed one of his most productive seasons as a Raptor The 31-year-old averaged 15 4 points and 82 rebounds per match, shooting 512% from the field, including 385% from the city center

Gasol, 35, averaged 7 5 points and 63 rebounds in 264 minutes per game last season (his 13th) for Toronto, but remains a valuable contributor on both ends of the floor – and in the locker room – due to his immeasurable IQ and refined skills
