A “Wipeout” contestant died after completing the game show’s obstacle course, authorities and sources close to the production said on Friday. The man, who was in his 30s, was pronounced dead in a hospital shortly before 7 p.m. Wednesday, spokeswoman for Los Angeles County Coroner Sarah Ardalani said The cause of death was not disclosed and the man’s name is withheld until the relatives can be informed

The reality TV show, in which participants navigate an extreme obstacle course with giant balls and traps that often lead to spectacular crashes, aired on ABC from 2008 to 2014 and is ongoing restart by TBS and production company Endemol Shine North America

Two people familiar with the production said the man completed the course on the show’s set in Santa Clarita, Calif., when he needed medical attention He was helped by on-site medical staff until paramedics arrived and took him to hospital People spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak publicly

The show ceased production Thursday and Friday and has a week off scheduled for next week, they said Contestants undergo medical examination before competing

“We are devastated to learn of his passing and our deepest sympathy goes out to the family,” TBS said in a statement

Endemol Shine issued a statement saying: “We offer our sincere condolences to the family and our thoughts are with them at this time”

TBS announced in April that the show would return, and in September announced that its new hosts would be John Cena and Nicole Byer No premiere date has been set yet
