JIM CENGIA FROM DAYTON, OH: Terry Hanratty was drafted in the second round of the 1969 NFL Draft Was he ever the Steelers starter before Terry Bradshaw?
ANSWER: Because Terry Hanratty was born and raised in Western Pennsylvania (Butler, Pa) and went on to pursue a famous career at Notre Dame, there was some pressure on the Steelers to draft him in the first round in 1969 At another time it might have meant something, but Dan Rooney and Chuck Noll were determined to pick the best players, and so the first round pick in this draft was Joe Greene Observers believed the Steelers were lucky to have a chance at Hanratty in the second round, but history would prove his skills didn’t translate well from college to the NFL In 1969, Dick Shiner was the Steelers’ main starting quarterback, but Hanratty started five games as a rookie, in which he finished 413% of his passes, with eight touchdowns, 13 interceptions and a score of 41sept It wasn’t until later in the 1974 regular season that Terry Bradshaw asserted himself enough to claim the permanent position, and during this period, Hanratty started 17 games in those five+ seasons, and he finished 381% of his passes, with 24 touchdowns, 34 interceptions and a rating of 438

LINDSEY WISNIEWSKI FROM RED LION, PA: In the Cincinnati game, a Bengals player absorbed the kick into the field of play and it bounced into the end zone where it was eventually tackled I thought it would have been a safety, but officials deemed it a touchback Have the rules changed?
ANSWER: The rules have not changed The only way to play would be safety if the player had the ball in the field of play, then ran back into the end zone and was tackled in the end zone So this is a safety Since the player has never gained possession of the ball on the playing court (outside the end zone) and once he has gained possession of the ball, he does not never took him out of the end zone before he was finally tackled in the end zone, he’s a touchback The officials were right to say that a touchdown

BILL FERRUCCI FROM GREENSBORO, NC: I was watching the NFL game on Thursday night, and there was a hold call against the Cardinals that happened in the end zone, which resulted in a security Just prior to this, Kyler Murray was called for an intentional grounding very close to the end zone.If the grounding call had been considered to have taken place in the end zone, this would result- there also a security?
ANSWER: Yes Intentional earthing in the end zone is also a safety

MARK ROBIN FROM BRONX, NY: Would we be able to run the ball better with Kevin Dotson on the court and David DeCastro on the bench?
ANSWER: This question implies that the main reason the Steelers are struggling with their running game is David DeCastro’s play This is not true

TONY MODZ FROM PITTSBURGH, PA: The way Cam Sutton plays, do you think he has the capacity to take over as the incumbent from Steven Nelson next year?
ANSWER: I’m not denying that Cam Sutton is playing well and has become a valuable member of the subsets defense, nor would I dismiss the idea that he could be a starting cornerback in the NFL. But here are a few things to consider: Sutton can become an unrestricted free agent next March, and Nelson is under contract until the 2021 season. Also, I suspect if the Steelers believed Sutton was a pending starter, they likely wouldn’t have signed Nelson as an unrestricted free agent in the 2019 offseason. Lots of time to decide what to do about Sutton and a lot of football to play along the way

TOM GARRETT FROM MOON TOWNSHIP, PA: Have you ever heard the thoughts of 1970s Steelers players on the party of love that exists after the game is over these days? There are hugs, swimsuits, etc. I can’t imagine Jack Lambert, Joe Greene or Mel Blount hugging Jack Tatum after the game
ANSWER: There was a sauna near the football locker room at Three Rivers Stadium, and after games some of the players you mentioned would gather to take a steam bath and replenish their liquid with a malt drink or two. And there have been occasions when players from the visiting team have been invited to join the fluid replacement exercise. Not Jack Tatum, of course, but opposing players all the same

JASON SCHRODER FROM TURLOCK, CA: Is it true that the last Super Bowl winning team to have a roster full of local players was the 1979 Steelers?
ANSWER: The 1979 Steelers, the team that won Super Bowl XIV against the Los Angeles Rams, were the only Super Bowl champion to have a full roster of players who never played for a team other than the Steelers And now, with free agency being such a big part of the NFL these days, I think it’s a distinction / record that probably won’t be broken

DARSH GILL OF ABBOTSFORD, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA: I was watching the Jets vs the Patriots, and it was a draw with the Patriots at the wheel and only 8 seconds left in the game Cam Newton threw a pass that was caught with about 3 seconds left as the receiver slid to the ground A Jets player touched it, the whistle blew and a time-out was called with 2 seconds remaining New England pitched a basket and won the game If the Jets player stayed behind and didn’t touch the New England player, would the time be up?
ANSWER: In the NFL it is possible for a player with football to ‘surrender’ which means he goes to the ground and does not make any further attempts to advance the ball. In this case, the official will do so. closer to the game will whistle dummy, and the example you cite is of a Patriots player “surrendering” “Once the whistle has been blown, and must be whistled immediately to avoid contact unnecessary, the timeout can be called

BRYCE KYBURZ FROM AUSTIN, TX: In your opinion, and as a seasoned observer and Steelers historian, do you think Cam Heyward has been the best inside lineman on the team since Joe Greene?
ANSWER: I’ll answer your question with a fact: There have only been two defensive linemen in franchise history to have been voted the Associated Press First Team All-Pro more than one times – Joe Greene (four times) and Cam Heyward (twice)

DAVE HORCHAK FROM CHERRY TREE, PA: I’m a huge fan of Asked and Answered Is there a way to sign up to receive notification of a new installment instead of looking for it?
ANSWER: Take this as a notification: During the regular season, Asked And Answered appears on Steelerscom on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and game days, with the sole exception of when game day is a Monday night. In this case, it doesn’t. there is no request and answer the next day

JAMES MAC PHERSON FROM BEACHWOOD, NJ: From the last episode of Q&A: I passed Grade 4 math but failed English To clear up a family feud: Team A ends the season 4-2 in the division and 10-6 overall Team B ends the season 2-4 in the division and 11-5 overall Who wins the division?
ANSWER: You again? I don’t know why you find this concept so difficult to grasp: Tiebreakers DO NOT APPLY unless teams have THE SAME RECORD Team A and Team B have different records, so the one with the best record finishes above the team with the lowest record – and 11-5 is better than 10-6, so tiebreakers do not apply And I don’t believe for a second that you did well in fourth grade math because you can’t fathom the simple fact that 11-5 is a better record than 10-6 Show me your report card

MIKE ABRAMS OF BIG PINE KEY, FL: What do you think the Steelers are getting for Arkansas linebacker Bumper Pool (yes, that’s his real name) in the draft?
ANSWER: First of all, M Pool – and you can bet anything you own that I checked to make sure there really is someone by that name playing football in Arkansas – didn’t make the draft of the NFL 2021, and he’s an underclass so he can go back to school for his senior season in 2021 Beyond that, I think if you really believe I’m going to answer the draft questions five months before the event at the heart of an NFL regular season when the Steelers are 9-0 and the last undefeated team in the league well, we’re just gonna say it won’t happen

MICKI ANDERSEN FROM FREDERICIA, DENMARK: Today (Nov 19) Five years ago you answered one of my questions about how the waiver system works. I guess you are wondering why I remember that date? I remember that day because six hours after reading your answer I had my son (now 5 years old) Benjamin in my arms for the first time I just want to thank you for your humor and for the knowledge that you pass on the Steelers and the NFL in general
ANSWER: I have heard of the questions asked and answers giving people headaches and sometimes indigestion, but yours is the first time a payout was responsible for inducing labor.I am glad to know that Benjamin is fine, and Benjamin is a cute name, but since Asked and Answered played such a role in the birth of your son, well, Bob is a cute name too, don’t you think?

Lipps was a playmaker who had the misfortune of playing between Bradshaw, Ben at the time
